Albany Bulb 16 x 20 Acrylic Plein Aire Ala Prima It’s been a terribly foggy and windy summer in SF, so as much as I hate getting caught in traffic, I decided to cross the Bay Bridge and paint on la Contra Costa. I’ve driven by the East Bay shore many times but obviously you can’t really understand local geography at 70 miles an hour hurtling down I80 to the San Francisco exit. I headed out to the Albany Bulb, a freak of a landfill earthwork. One problem I discovered upon arrival is it’s 2 hour parking! That’s just not long enough. Mid painting I walked back and re shuffled the car into another spot in “soft compliance” but was a little stressed the parking authorities would want more than this token respect. The windward side of the Bulb was, well, windy, and I’m just over getting pummeled by wind these days so I went to the leeward side and found a cute little bay spot facing north. The final piece reminds me of my China Camp paintings from across the bay in San Rafael, so theres definately a bay style I have going on. As I was walking back to the car I noticed the metermaid mobile lurking in the parking lot. I was a little anxious and assumed the worst but luckily there was no ticket! Success!
