Plein Aire Synthesis
A few years ago my friend Ishan Clemenco gave me a really great and inspiring LP for my birthday by the roving Japanese collective the Taj Mahal Travelers. These guys would travel around and play their music in natural settings spread out along the bluffs next to the ocean or other environments and play a show/jam. I was also turned on to genny shows a few years ago by this movable thing called Modular On the Spot where a bunch of synth bros would put together a bill of local synthesists. It moved around from city to city so it included a lot of people wherever it went.
In Stirling and my case, this is our second outing. The first was on top of Buena Vista Park in SF. This time we hit the India Basin Shoreline Park. We set up at the very fenced off edge of the Hunters Point Shipyard. Didn’t see a person the whole time. It’s a bit of a disheveled spot slated for a new development monstrosity. I painted here before. It’s good to document these places before they disappear. Our piece is ambient with hints of Eastern drone and industrial howl.
