San Pablo Bay Wildlife Refuge

I try to not spend too much time driving to a painting spot so I can spend more QT painting, but the magic GPS said I was only 38 minutes out so I went for it. For the first time I crossed into Sonoma County in search of a wetlands vista. Off Highway 37 I found this amazing pano spot. I could spend a week here, so many great POV’s. I wish I could post the smell of the salt air and gentle breeze! I recently scored up some light pthalo blue cuz I was using way too much zinc/titanium white tinting up my normal blue paints. Now I highlight with the darker blues (if this makes any sense to non-painter nerds). The water here is shallow so it’s gut a muddy brown undercurrent. The tide eventually went out exposing mud flats. I’m a native bay child from the East Coast so this whole experience was really nostalgic for me. I’ll be heading back up to Sonoma for more golden grasslands and rolling hill landscapes soon.
