I go through a lot of creative mediums throughout the course of a year and try and not neglect any one of my favorite interests. Life is short after all, so you may as well try everything. I wish I could just do art, but I do have to work sometimes to make money which is well, you know, I feel you. Anyhow, I am currently working on a few projects with music and art and have been deep into this new mobile making process. My nana had one of those lights with the spinning insides of Niagra Falls. When I was a kid I would just sit there and stare at it, astral projecting myself into it practically. The secret to this kinetic light effect was what I recently learned is called a convection carousel. Obviously, the heat energy is transferred into movement. I thought “huh, maybe I could build an internal motor into my mobiles so they never stop unwinding.” I did hit a snag in the development of this idea. The Niagra Falls lamp inner kinetic shade rests on a center pin where I wanted to hang mine with thread. The thread will spin in one way but needs to recoil as well or it will just get stuck, so I had to offset either the candle or the rotor or both. I also added a small circular disk on one to add a counter weight for the rotor offset and it gives the rotor a place to hide from the heat and unravel. Alas here are a few of my latest and hopefully not greatests proofs of concept.
