Music

I currently have four music projects cooking, the indie rock band Starry Skemes, the experimental improv band Warm Spell, the A/V theater/lo-fi recording project 3rd Hand Collective and solo modular synthesis. I play Farfisa and modular in the international band Dire Wolves and occasionally will play acoustic singer/songwriter style on acoustic guitar. Click on an image above for one of the current pages/playlists: 3rd Hand Collective, Open Mic Nite, Starry Skemes and Warm Spell. If you want studio recordings, click on the bandcamp and soundcloud links in the menu. There’s several LP’s and one off songs up there.

I am very lucky to have magnetically connected with such a huge musical and creative community over the last 30-40 years. It’s great to pull people into projects and productions knowing they will take my little ideas and run with them well past my expectations. My hope is these connections extended beyond myself and new friendships collaborations and inspirations spin outwards into the future.

Starry Skemes was back in the practice space this weekend putting some new tunes up on the chopping block including Space Carpet, Tonight!, a new one without any lyrics yet and these two. We are rounding out our cafe/bookstore volume indie rock recital set with these tracks.

the Rabbles live at the Clarion Alley Block Party 2014?

Classic Rabbles lineup of Michael Chulada, Marina Lazzara, Jamie Kimmel, Dave Mairs and meself. Greyscale Scape was my attempt at rainy Scottish indie rock internal sentimentality. Not sure if the Clarion Alley people were getting it. I never play “party time” rock n’ roll. It’s always a one on one intimate listening expression/experience for misfits. It’s the kind of music I like to write and listen to.

Plein Aire Synthesis

A few years ago my friend Ishan Clemenco gave me a really great and inspiring LP for my birthday by the roving Japanese collective the Taj Mahal Travelers. These guys would travel around and play their music in natural settings spread out along the bluffs next to the ocean or other environments and play a show/jam. I was also turned on to genny shows a few years ago by this movable thing called Modular On the Spot where a bunch of synth bros would put together a bill of local synthesists. It moved around from city to city so it included a lot of people wherever it went. In Stirling and my case, this is our second outing. The first was on top of Buena Vista Park in SF. This time we hit the India Basin Shoreline Park. We set up at the very fenced off edge of the Hunters Point Shipyard. Didn’t see a person the whole time. It’s a bit of a disheveled spot slated for a new development monstrosity. I painted here before. It’s good to document these places before they disappear. Our piece is ambient with hints of Eastern drone and industrial howl.
